About Past Medical History
Past Medical History explores how medicine became what it is today.
Through epidemics, surgical risk, determined individuals and decisive discoveries, it traces the turning points that reshaped clinical practice.
The site is organised into four themes:
- Plagues & Pathogens.
- Surgery & The Knife.
- Medical Pioneers.
- Discoveries & Breakthroughs.
Each essay focuses on the people, the physiology and the context behind the practices we now take for granted.
This is not a timeline. It is an examination of how medicine learned, corrected itself and moved forward.
